I recently got to speak with Billy Boyd at a London press junket about the closing credits song, "The Last Goodbye," he wrote for the final chapter in Peter Jackson‘s Hobbit trilogy, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. During the interview he talked about how he got involved in writing the song, embarrassing moments from filming The Lord of the Rings, what he would ask J. R. R. Tolkien, meeting long-time LOTR fans at a pub in London the night before the world premiere, and a lot more.
As most of you know, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is now in theaters. Unlike the first two installments of The Hobbit, the final chapter is almost non-stop action and features some incredible sequences that fans of The Lord of the Rings will absolutely love. In addition, if you have the chance to see it in 3D, the added ticket price is worth it for this movie. The film stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Stephen Fry, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, and Orlando Bloom.

Billy Boyd (actor)
Billy Boyd (born 28 August 1968) is a Scottish actor and singer most widely known for playing the characters Peregrin "Pippin" Took in Peter Jackson's epic film trilogy The Lord of the Rings (2001–2003), Barret Bonden in Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003), and Glen in Seed of Chucky (2004).
Early life
Boyd was born in Glasgow, Scotland to William and Mary Boyd, who both died a year apart when Boyd was in his early teens. He was brought up, along with his elder sister Margaret, by their grandmother. In 1984, at the age of 16, he appeared in local musical company Theatre Guild, Glasgow's production of Hans Andersen. He worked as a book-binder for seven years before pursuing an acting career. One of the books he bound was The Lord of the Rings. He graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, where he earned a diploma in Dramatic Arts.
Career
Acting
Boyd started his career appearing in Taggart (1996), The Soldier's Leap (1998), and Urban Ghost Story (1998). He also appeared in the 7:84 Theatre Company Scotland production of Caledonia Dreaming by David Greig in 1997. His breakthrough, and most notable acting role, was Peregrin "Pippin" Took in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, from 2001 to 2003. Boyd wrote the melody for and sang the song "The Edge of Night" which featured in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. The song was later used over the trailer for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014), the final film in The Hobbit trilogy. Boyd also wrote and performed the song "The Last Goodbye" which is played during the ending credits of the film.

I recently got to speak with Billy Boyd at a London press junket about the closing credits song, "The Last Goodbye," he wrote for the final chapter in Peter Jackson‘s Hobbit trilogy, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. During the interview he talked about how he got involved in writing the song, embarrassing moments from filming The Lord of the Rings, what he would ask J. R. R. Tolkien, meeting long-time LOTR fans at a pub in London the night before the world premiere, and a lot more. As most of you know, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is now in theaters. Sean Astin is an actor and singer known for his roles as Rudy, Mike in the Goonies, and Samwise in the Lord of the Rings. Sean grew up as a true Hollywood child. His mother is Patty Duke (from the Patty Duke Show) and Sean considered his father to be John Astin (Gomez from the original Adam’s Family). Sean started acting at a young age but got his first gig at 10. Three years later he starred in The Goonies. The star, who portrayed the hobbit Pippin in the Lord of the Rings films, teamed up with director Peter Jackson and writers/producers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens to pen the fittingly-titled The Last Goodbye for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies soundtrack, but he reveals it took them some time to get the lyrics and tune just right as it not only marked the end of The Hobbit sequel, but also the conclusion of the entire fantasy series based on the books by J. R. R. Tolkien.
